PrintParents and Volunteers

Welcome to the CYO!

As part of our mandate with Alliance Hockey and Hockey Canada, all our parents are required to complete the following prior to the start of the season.

Alliance Respect in Sport for Parents This free online program module is to be completed by parents of registered players. If you have previously completed the course for one of your children, you will need to add any subsequent children to your account.

CYO_Parent_Code_of_ConductThe Parent Code of Conduct was completed when the player was registered online for the CYO at the start of the season.

OHF Rowan's Law Acknowledgement FormThe CYO fully supports the intent of Rowan's Law to create awareness of concussions, change the culture on concussions, and provide safe sport participation. Parents and players will be required to review the material below, and sign and submit the form to the CYO office prior to being eligible to Register/participate. Players will also be given a brief in-person pre-game explanation of the material at a point before the first game of the season is played.

On-ice helpers and team managers (additional modules)

The CYO would not be possible without the support of our parents and volunteers! The following four items are the certification requirements for our parents who are willing and able to help out on or off the ice as on-ice helpers or team managers.

Police Vulnerable Sector CheckVolunteers over age of 18 must submit a cleared Police Vulnerable Sector Check to the CYO Office at the start of the season. The cost of the police check is at your own expense.

CYO Coaches Code of ConductAll bench staff including coaches, trainers, on-ice helpers, and team managers must sign and submit a copy of the coaches Code of Conduct  to the CYO Office at the start of the season.

Alliance Hockey Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders: All bench staff over the age of 18 including coaches, trainers, on-ice helpers, and team managers must complete the Respect in Sport Activity Leader program. This online program is different from the parent program, so you will need to take both. The cost of the course is at your own expense.

Gender Identity and Expression Course: This free online program is to be completed by all on-ice helpers and bench staff. To sign up for this online course, create an eHockey Canada account or login in to your existing account (you may already have one if you previously took a coaching course). Select "Signup for a Clinic" from the top navigation bar and search for "Gender Identity and Expression Course" from the list.

Bench Staff (additional modules)

If you wish to be part of the bench staff, you must complete ALL of the above AND one or both the Hockey Trainers Certification or a Coach Certification.

Hockey Trainers Certification Program: Every team must have a trainer rostered on their bench. The certification is for 3 years and has a common expiry date of August 31. The course currently costs $85 and this is at your own expense. If you are taking the refresher (renewal) course, the cost is $65.

Hockey Canada Coach Certification: If you plan on coaching your child from Novice and up, you should take the Coach2 certification or Development 1 depending on which stream you would like your child to follow. For more information on the different coaching streams, please click here. Again the cost to take the course you choose is at your own expense. However, if you continue to coach with CYO, you may be eligible to be reimbursed for the cost of the course in your 2nd year. Please keep your receipts.

OHF Rowan's Law Acknowledgement Form: The CYO fully supports the intent of Rowan's Law to create awareness of concussions, change the culture on concussions, and provide safe sport participation. Parents and players will be required to review the material below, and sign and submit the form to the CYO office prior to being eligible to Register/participate. Players will also be given a brief in-person pre-game explanation of the material at a point before the first game of the season is played.
